Business Intelligence AX 2012 - Power View


Requirements
  1. SharePoint Server 2013
  2. SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU4
  3. Analysis Services (AX 2012)
  4. Enterprise Portal (AX 2012)
Steps

  • Set up SQL 2012 SP1 CU4 with all features
    • Installation
      • SSRS Native Mode
      • SSAS
      • Report-Sharepoint
      • Report Share Point Add in
  • SharePoint 2013
    • SharePoint 2013 Management Shell
      • Run Install-SPRSService
      • Run Install-SPRSServiceProxy
    • SharePoint 2013 Central Administration
      • Start the SQL Reporting Services Services on Server
      • Create the SQL Reporting Services Service Application 
      • Enable the PowerView and Reporting service integration feature  on Site Collections (Done Automatically)
  • Deploy and Process AX Cubes 
  • Install or  Create New EP Site
    • The Power View Document library will already have been created in the EP Site Collection (Hint: Document Library Content Sources has to have Report Data Source)
    • Create Data Sources for Cubes (Hint: Default Data Sources of cubes are created automatically)
Sample Data Source Connection String

Provider=MSOLAP.4;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=True;Data Source=[ServerName];Initial Catalog=[DatabaseName];Locale identifier=[LocaleID];Cube=[CubeName]

  1. can you explain how to customize this feature for non standard cubes ?

    1. This feature will work with non standard cubes as well. We will have to create our own class that will direct the menu item to the URL where the Cube Report Data Sources in on the EP.

    2. The Power View Feature is also available in Excel 2013. You have to use Power Pivot to select the Cube from AX and then u can open a new Power View Report and use that Data in Power View.
